Making divider lines in Photoshop
Here’s another quick tip I use for making dotted or solid lines in Photoshop. When you need divider lines that are equally spaced for side navigation or tables, try using a text box with a lot of period’s or underscores instead of individual layers. It makes it easy to keep the divider lines equally spaced, and also makes it easy to adjust them later on just by changing the leading.
If you just need a single dotted line, just use a pixel font and set the anti-aliasing to “none”.

Making dotted borders in Photoshop
I posted this earlier on Twitter, but figured I should make a more permanent home for this tip.
- Create an alternating checker board pattern (different sized patterns will make different sized dots/dashes)
- Apply a “Stroke Layer Style” to the desired layer
- Change “Fill Type” to “Pattern” and select the pattern you created in step 1.
John Nack requests feedback for Graphic & Web design enhancements in Photoshop ∞
Some of the ideas presented are exactly what I’ve been waiting for… specifically:
- Buttons with states (editable Up, Down, Over, etc.)
- Intelligent widgets (e.g. buttons that resize smartly a la 9-Slice)
- Intelligent, skinnable charts (including ones with live data feeds)
- Linked files (edit one document & have the change reflected in several documents that link to it)
- Symbols (reusable objects that can be dragged in from a Library panel)
- Type styles (edit a style definition in order to update multiple type layers at once)
- Pixel-accurate Web rendering (i.e. text and objects that appear exactly as they would in a browser)

Autistic artist finds inspiration in New York city ∞
Wiltshire was recently in New York for the last of nine massive panoramic drawings of major cities around the world. He has drawn each from his unique memory that stores the complete view of a city after taking a helicopter ride that lasts minutes.
Absolutely unbelievably amazing.

31Three.com - Version 5
Last week I had the unfortunate experience of losing most of my previous website (the database was thankfully salvaged) which pushed me to redesign this website a little earlier than I had hoped. It’s still very much a work in progress, but I wanted to get it launched sooner rather than later.
My first mockup for this redesign was a bit different. I actually came very close to running with it, until Chris Merritt convinced me that I’d come off looking like I sold poetry and scrapbooks instead of web design.
Thanks Chris… I owe you one.
The Xero team is broading their scope to now include personal accounts as well:
We want to change how people save and how they act with their money. All of us were blown away when our interaction team walked us through the early designs several months ago. We think we’ve built a tool that people will enjoy using again and again.
Due in early 2010.
